Description

Marma is stated in Rig Veda, Atharva Veda, Mahabharata, Ayurveda and Yoga. Marma was used in Martial Arts for self-defense. Marma are the vital points in Ayurveda that has to be protected from trauma. Marma are those vital points in the body which are to be taken care of because they are the seats of Prana (energy). Thus, when they are affected, the organs corresponding to the Prana channel of the body start getting deprived of Prana and hence the organ becomes affected or diseased.

Marma are the vital points where 3 Doshas are present in their subtle points Prana, Ojas & Tejas along with Satva, Rajas and Tamas. Marma is used to stimulate different organs of the body as per desire or need. By stimulating specific Marma points, the function of that organ or region is improved. The sensation of pain is felt more in the Marma points. These are stimulated during Abhyanga massage by the application of various medicated oils for promotion of health and management of diseases. The stimulation of Marma points using gentle pressure will help in flow of Prana (energy), remove blockages and stimulate energy flow thereby helping to relax the body, relieving pain, restoring balance and improving health of the body and mind as well. Gentle pressure on the Marma point will help in restoring normal functioning of Prana where excess pressure may lead to disbalance, increase of the existing problem or pain, deformity, disability or death.
